“…I think what kept us both going was that we were giving a lot of talks, speeches, and I was talking to a lot of schools and a lot of professional conferences and so forth. And everybody always loved the stories, we got standing ovations. People would ask if we had copies of them, they’d say, are they in a book anywhere, I need to read them to my students, my family, my sales team. And so we knew that they had, you know, a resonance with people, but the fact was in New York, where most books got sold at that time. Nobody had ever had success, publishing collections of short stories, because mostly they were literary short stories. So we just knew in our hearts that people responded to them. And it was kind of a divine guidance, if you will, I just knew I had to not give up…”
