My Favorite Holiday Cookie Recipe
“Ethel’s Christmas Sugar Cookie Recipe”
Ingredients
3/4 cup of shortening or margarine
1 cup of sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2-1/2 cups Gold Medal Flour, sifted
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
Directions
Mix shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla throughly.
Stir flour, baking powder and salt together and blend into 1st mixture, small amounts at a time.
Chill at least one-hour.
Preheat oven to 400-degrees.
Roll out dough to 1/8” thickness on floured board.
Using decorative cookie cutter shapes, cut dough and place cookies on uncreased baking sheet.
Bake for 6-8 minutes until golden brown. (Watch them carefully so as not to burn them.)
Makes approximately 4 dozen cookies.
Icing Recipe
Ingredients
Confectioners sugar
vanilla
milk
food coloring
Directions
Create an icing that is thick enough to spread on cookies, but not too runny.
Have separate bowls for each color and spread on cookies.
Decorate with your favorite toppings; sprinkles, red hots, etc.
