My Favorite Holiday Cookie Recipe

“Ethel’s Christmas Sugar Cookie Recipe”

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup of shortening or margarine

  • 1 cup of sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 2-1/2 cups Gold Medal Flour, sifted

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 1 tsp salt

Directions

  • Mix shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla throughly.

  • Stir flour, baking powder and salt together and blend into 1st mixture, small amounts at a time.

  • Chill at least one-hour.

  • Preheat oven to 400-degrees.

  • Roll out dough to 1/8” thickness on floured board.

  • Using decorative cookie cutter shapes, cut dough and place cookies on uncreased baking sheet.

  • Bake for 6-8 minutes until golden brown. (Watch them carefully so as not to burn them.)

Makes approximately 4 dozen cookies.

Icing Recipe

Ingredients

  • Confectioners sugar

  • vanilla 

  • milk

  • food coloring 

Directions

  • Create an icing that is thick enough to spread on cookies, but not too runny.

  • Have separate bowls for each color and spread on cookies.

  • Decorate with your favorite toppings; sprinkles, red hots, etc.

I usually use REAL butter for a sinfully delicious bite.
